“Faster! Sprint it out,” I demand of my exhausted body. I pump my arms and drive my legs. As I cross the finish line, seventeen minutes and three miles lie behind me. This is cross-country in its simplest form: long-distance running. Yet, at its core, cross-country revolves around competition, focus, individual growth and improvement, teamwork, integrity, and fun. For me, it is not just an extracurricular activity. It is a mindset, a way of life.
