I cried when I heard Regina Spektor’s song “Firewood” for the first time. I cried when Will Smith and his son had to spend the night in a train station restroom in “The Pursuit of Happyness.” I cried when I closed the book “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” and I cried when they closed my grandfather’s coffin. What truly moves me feels essential to who I am. And I have come to believe that all the varied ways – joyful, elated, sad, complicated – in which each of us are moved are also personal, telling, and uniquely us.
